Joanna Chan – Channel Marketing Assistant, Jebsen Beer (Far left back row)
Can I return to the workplace and regain myself? Will my abilities and experiences be valued?
These questions lingered in my mind until I saw HATCH’s social media post. The message ‘full-time mothers can return to the workplace like everyone else’ ignited a fire in my heart. Signing up for job shadowing became the turning point that led me to where I am today.
During my shadowing day, I had an hour-long interview with my mentor Karen, who helped me identify my goals and direction. Dickson introduced me to the organization’s business portfolio and explained how the Human Resources Department supports women in balancing family and work. Their dedication to cultivating this environment gave me the confidence to return to the workplace. After shadowing, we discussed available opportunities, and I gladly accepted – beginning a new chapter as a Marketing Assistant.
Now in my role, I’m particularly grateful for flexible work arrangements that allow me to witness my sons’ important moments – from graduation ceremonies to first days of school and registration days. My supportive colleagues encourage me to focus on work without worrying about family. A happy surprise has been having new conversation topics with my children – sharing different moments from my workday with them. I feel more confident as work gives me the opportunity to express another side of myself.
Joanna’s journey shows that motherhood doesn’t mean putting personal growth on hold—it’s still possible to explore new paths and embrace fresh opportunities.
